This camera's previous owner may have been German because the battery inside it is German. ~Oo la la~

Photobucket
Canon AE-1 [film], Nikon D60 (Gold Edition), Holga 120s, Canon EOS Rebel G [film], and Polaroid.

Fished from my most favorite place, the flea market, last weekend for a glorious $20. Not going to lie, I tried to haggle it down to $15 because I wasn't even sure if it was working or not (no battery), but eventually gave in, thinking it'd make a nice decor piece if anything.

Today, I went to my high school to visit my photo teacher to see if he has any battery, film, or anything useful really--he didn't. But I was reassured that I am welcome to come back anytime to develop, which is fantastic! He also offered to sell me some Ilford B&W film for cheap too. Fortunately, one of his students also has a AE-1 so I borrowed her battery to see if my camera would work and IT DID!!! YAYYYYY!!

I am absolutely ECSTATIC to get back into film photography and developing--it's been too long! As soon as Cindy gets herself a new (possibly the same Canon AE-1 [we like to unintentionally match idk]) film camera, we're going to go on some ~*PHOTO ADVENTURES*~.

I ABSOLUTELY CAN.NOT.WAIT!!!

Tuition increase for UCs [Nov. 20th, 2009|04:25 pm]
Although this may seem irrelevant to me for the time being (& possibly ever again), I think it affects us all as a nation. With tuition increasing in California schools all around, it's only going to discourage people from going to/continuing school/etc. A nation that lacks education will not/cannot flourish. I'm extremely grateful that I don't have to worry about tuition costs at all at the moment, but the issue still deeply concerns me. I understand California has a budget crisis but why target the students--the ones that might actually change something and make a difference. And this is just California, I don't even know about the other 49 states.

What a bunch of bollocks. I'm moving to France and living in the country side. Who's coming with?

All-nighter (part 4?): Writer's Block [Nov. 16th, 2009|03:29 am]
[Current Music |Lady GaGa - Bad Romance | Powered by Last.fm]

I have absolutely no motivation to start my paper. Normally, I would think that I don't, but then I start and have no problem finishing it. But tonight, I just can't seem to want to and/or know where to even begin. I believe that a reason why I do these (semi-weekly) All-Nighter posts is to help with writer's block, you know, just to get my brain working a bit, as a writing exercise.

Also, I blame today's major major procrastination on:
Photobucket

UGHHHH, I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO BAD ROMANCE.
I keep telling myself, "Okay, JUST ONCE MORE."
Repeat (x20).

FYT:

Begin countdown to when I won't be able to stand this song anymore:
5
...
4
...
3
...
2
...

RA RA AH AH AHHH ROMAA ROMA MAHH.
YOU AND ME COULD WRITE A BAD ROMANCE.

Now, about this history paper...

"And soldiers in the history books
Were homesick once and missed their loves
So maybe me and you should call that press today
And tell them to rewrite history for the lover's sake
For the lover's sake."

This deeply saddens me. [Nov. 8th, 2009|01:15 am]
[Current Music |Margot & the Nuclear So and So's - Quiet As A Mouse | Powered by Last.fm]

Also, I just found out MY FAVORITE BAND:MARGOT AND THE NUCLEAR SO AND SO'S, SEMI-SPLIT UP D':!!! They're an 8-piece band. And earlier today, I was just thinking about how I love their use for each of their instruments! UGH. So now the 8-piece band has been cut to 5, with only 3 of the original members. To be honest, Richard Edwards is the only person that matters. He writes ALL the songs, is the lead singer and produces the stuff. He's like the Ben Gibbard of Death Cab. And almost just as a genius lyricist, imo, as well as a lot hotter! Among the two that left that I'm disappointed about is Chris, who has the best stage presence I have ever seen, EVER of all the bands/shows I've ever seen. And Emily Watkins, because she's the only female in the band and I like it when she and Richard do duets. I love duets. I bet she left cause of sexual tension. lol...

Any Margot fans out there?

Utilizing my two days off to the max with nonproductivity. [Nov. 8th, 2009|12:36 am]
[Current Music |Margot & the Nuclear So and So's - Dress Me Like A Clown | Powered by Last.fm]

Friday and Saturday: No school, no work, no school work.
So I wanted to make the most out of my days off by not doing anything at all, just laying in bed. I have a bit of a cold, so I figured the rest would do me some good as well.

Friday:
I indeed did lay in bed all day. I watched a bunch of movies I hadn't gotten around to in a while. I saw:

Photobucket
1. 500 Days of Summer: It's actually my first time, surprisngly. I know I'm like the only girl who hasn't seen this. I thought it was pretty good, relatable, and made some good points. I'm not adding it to my favorite movies list or anything though. Zooey looks really old in closeups--she's got lots of wrinkles. Just saying.

Photobucket
2. Paris Je T'aime: This was my second time watching this. I wasn't too crazy about it the first time. I wasn't too crazy about it the second time either. My favorite "scenes" are:
Photobucket

Photobucket
3. A Very Long Engagement: It was indeed a very, long engagement (lol you don't even know how many times I've used this line). This was my eh.. sort of 2nd time watching this. The first time I saw it, I watched the beginning, ffw through the middle, and saw the ending. I found out my 3 favorite actors (who all happen to be French, go figure) are in it! Gaspard Ulliel, Marion Cotillard, and Audrey Tatou. Of course, I was aware that Gaspard and Audrey were in it, but I didn't realize Marion was. I enjoyed the cinematography. It was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie), therefore had his signature warm tones and a bunch of the actors from Amelie (my favorite movie). So I suppose this movie gets extra brownie points for that and having my favorite acteurs.

Photobucket
4. Lost in Translation: First time seeing this. Well, once my cousin and I movie-hopped into the middle of it, sat for like 5 minutes, then left, so that doesn't really count. Ever since then, I never cared to watch it (even though it's a Sofia Coppola film) because it just seemed really slow-paced and boring. Yeah, I was pretty right. It wasn't as boring as I expected, but it didn't do much for me. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson don't do much for me, sorry to say.

THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T DO WHILE SICK:

I had a crazy craving for sweets. I really wanted ice cream (I always want ice cream though) or cake or something. I was tempted to go buy myself an entire chocolate cake, but figured I had to then buy milk, and I only want Over The Moon Milk (THEBESTMILKINTHEWORLD) and idk where to get that around here. So I grabbed a roll of Oreos and ate all of it, in 20 minutes, while laying in bed. I later regretted this when I started to feel sick. Yet, around 10pm, I dragged my ass out of bed and went to In-N-Out and ordered a strawberry milkshake and animal fries (WITH EXTRA CHEESE) LOL. I would've gotten it well-done too if I had remembered hahahaaaa... :|

Usually, when someone's sick, they usually layer up to keep themselves warm, you know, wear sweats, sweaters, scarves, etc. Anyway, I decided today to wear nothing but my tshirt and undies. I used to always wear clothes when I sleep, but lately, it's been quite the opposite. I always like to blast the heater during the winter, and wear as little clothes as possible. Anyway, TMI, sorry.

Saturday:
I went to my dad's, had lunch, did laundry, and yea that's about it. Managed to get some reading in. I'm currently (leisure) reading Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. I've had a slow start on it so far, since I've been really busy, but I'm hoping to finish it this week.

HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS? [Nov. 4th, 2009|12:09 am]
[Current Music |Miike Snow - In Search Of | Powered by Last.fm]

I LOVE LISTENING TO MUSIC WITH HEADPHONES! (not earphones/earbuds)
I am looking to buy some really good/legit headphones.

I'm kinda eyeing these:
Photobucket
Bose® Around-Ear Headphones - 41213 $139.95

Any recommendations/discouragements?
Budget: $100-$150ish, but less would be preferable!

I currently own a pair of Sony headphones that I got for like $20, which I think are great, but considering how much I love these already, I can't imagine how awesome a more expensive pair would be! I think my iPod earbuds are far inferior. I recently went to the Bose store and tried on some noise-cancelling headphones and was BLOWN AWAY--AMAZED! However, $300 headphones are definitely out of my budget hahah. :(

Halloween [Oct. 31st, 2009|08:36 pm]
[Current Music |Karen O and the Kids - Hidaway | Powered by Last.fm]

I had the day off from work. I also had a free movie ticket that expired today so I thought I'd use it so it wouldn't go to waste. I couldn't decide what to see; first I thought I'd go see Where The Wild Things Are again, then I thought I'd watch Couple's Retreat but ultimately decided on watching An Education.

I went to Santana Row-CinéArts to see it and EVERYONE in my auditorium was 50-80 years old, except for a couple who are probably in their 30s. I wish I was exaggerating but this is an "exact estimate" (oxymoron?). Of course I would see the type of movie that 50-80 year olds would watch.

Photobucket

Miss Stubbs: You seem to be old and wise.
Jenny: I feel old. But not very wise.

It's a coming of age story in 1961 about a naive 16 going on 17 year old student in the suburbs of London with aspirations of going to study English at Oxford, until she is charmed by a good-looking, posh older man. She is enchanted by his glamorous, luxurious lifestyle and therefore, her education is compensated. She begins to question what she really wants in life and so, is faced with difficult decisions.

The movie was pretty good. I'd recommend this movie if you like coming up age stories, which I personally do not. However, I am happy with my decision. I especially enjoyed the Paris scene and the sexy, jazzy 60s soundtrack.
Why am I writing movie reviews on my lj? I don't really know, most likely just procrastinating.

While I was in the parking lot, I spent 5 minutes trying to open this car that later turned out not to be mine; I even thought my key was broken. And only last Thursday, I spent about 10 minutes walking around my school parking lot trying to find my car...

Unfortunately, I will be spending the rest of my Halloween doing homework since I have a quiz on Monday, a midterm on Wednesday and Thursday, a paper due on Wednesday (as usual), and I work for the next 3 days. LOVELY.

Happy Halloween y'all.

Yours truly,
An

Nikon DX: AF-S NIKKOR 35mm 1:1.8G [Oct. 27th, 2009|10:25 pm]
[Current Music |Beirut - Nantes | Powered by Last.fm]

I JUST GOT MY NEW CAMERA LENS! WHOO! This is the first additional lens I've ever bought for any of my DSLRs; I've always just stuck with the kit lens. Anyway, I thought I deserved to treat myself to a new lens heh. I'm not exactly sure how to show you good "sample photos" of the lens' capabilities (without telling you all the details of the iso/exposure, basically stuff I don't care to keep track of), soooo I just took a couple photos of random stuff in my room with low lighting and low iso? I realized that I really need VR (vibration reduction) because my hands are really unstable.

an early start on my weekly all-nighter-Tuesdays procrastination )

I'm not really into documentaries, but [Oct. 25th, 2009|01:33 am]
Photobucket
as you can probably tell, this isn't your average documentary.

It's basically about this guy, Chris, who's probably in his mid-30s. He's been dumped by every single one of his ex-girlfriends. So now he's trying to contact all his ex-gfs to see what went wrong. At least, that was the first half of the film. The second half of the film, goes off on a tangent and focuses more on (one of the reasons why he can't keep a girlfriend) his erectile dysfunction, which then leads to a series of unfortunate events.

If you make a myspace to try to find girls, be careful because you never know if one of them may have a S&M dungeon. Just a word of advice.

And um, this is NSFW.

Literally, [Oct. 21st, 2009|08:52 am]
In a whirl, you ran into my life.
I was caught by surprise, as were you.
I didn’t expect to find you rather cute.
You had large eyes and wore a light grey coat.
For a moment, we stared at each other in silence.
I could see it in your eyes, you’ve made a mistake.

Then as quick as you arrived, you left.
I thought:
a. you're gay
b. you've got a girlfriend
c. You kinda thought I came off too strong or
d. I just wasn't your thing, no ring

I did not catch your name, but I’ve decided to call you Hendric.
Apparently, you keep my mother up at night
And you leave droppings in her room.
You are a mouse and you will probably be dead soon—sorry.
My mother isn’t very fond of mice.
